The leaves of the trees were deep red and burnt amber of the mid-fall season, and several floated down to the ground below as they fell from their branches. There was a bit of a chill on the air, but the grass was still a thick and lush green carpet. Near the stream there was a rather large log, and three Sin’dorei children sat atop it. There were two girls and a boy; the girls had bright red hair whereas the boy’s hair was as black as a raven’s wing. The really noticeable difference between the girls was one’s hair was straight and the others had a bit of a curl to it. The boy tipped his head back and looked up at the sky, “I miss how things used to be…”
The girl with the curly hair looked at him and then up at the sky as well. “Darius, it will be like that again someday…” She said softly, her small bare feet swinging back and forth, “We survived, and we’ll make our home strong and beautiful again.”
The young boy nodded a bit and looked towards the girl with straight hair. “What do you think Nanori?”
Nanori, the girl with the straight hair, hopped off the log and moved towards the stream. She was taller than the other two children, and there was a look of sadness upon her face as she turned her bright green eyes down to the stream. “Buildings and homes, they can always be rebuilt.” She began with a bit of a shrug. “But the people we lost, we are never going to get them back…and things…will never likely be how they used to be. Things are going to change. Kailei and Darius you need to understand that…and you must become strong for the Sin’dorei people to prosper…”
The other child, Kailei…fluffed her curls slightly and looked at her sister. “I will be strong Nanori…and one of these days, I will repay the debt I owe you for saving me…” She paused then looking a little choked up. “That day.”
Darius too would jump off the log at that point. He picked up a fallen stick and swung it about like a sword. “I will be a great warrior…and I will lead armies after the Lich King!” He exclaimed with a grand motion of his stick-sword. “I will drive my blade through his undead flesh! And there will be vengeance for the Sin’dorei people!”
Nanori rolled her eyes at the boy, and she put her hands on her hips. “Seriously Darius?” She then looked to Kailei, “And no offense sister, but you are horrible with a sword during training. You two are likely to get yourselves killed.”
Kailei then hopped off the log and went right over to her sister, and she walked right up to the taller girl…having to look up at her and everything she poked Nanori in the chest. “I WILL get better, I WILL live up to what our parents expected of us, and I WILL not get myself killed, I am just small Nano, not helpless…” She sighed in exasperation, and she looked at Darius who seemed rather distraught at Nanori’s remarks. “I do not think you will get yourself killed either Darius. You will make a fine warrior…we can practice together, Nanori’s been hanging out with those ranger types too much.”
Nanori shrugged a bit at that point. “You two are going to do what you want anyways, don’t listen to me…but don’t come crying to me either, when you can’t do what you planned on doing, or you get hurt. I will not be there to protect you all the time.” She then turned and walked towards the encampment. “I will see you at home Kailei, remember I leave for training tomorrow.”
The younger sister, Kailei watched as Nanori walked away and she then turned to Darius. “Come on Darius, we better get back too…we have to practice a bit more too…” She crossed her arms over her chest and followed after her sister.
Darius sighed and glanced at Kailei with a nod. He followed along as well…still muttering about girls being stupid and not knowing anything about fighting.
It was then that Kailei woke in her bed with a start. She sat up and pushed the bright red curls out of her face. Glancing around her home she sighed and fell back against the pillows. She had been thinking about the past a lot lately and she could tell that Nanori too sometimes lost herself in it.
She wondered though now, whatever happened to Darius? Did he survive his own excursions into Northrend with the military? She frowned a bit and got up out of bed, wrapping a robe around herself. How could she have forgotten about her childhood friend? “Great…” She muttered. “Now I feel bad…I will have to find out if he survived the war Northrend conflicts…”
And so she would go on about her day.
